Hutchison Ports EIT invests 100 MDD in infraestructure for the next 20 years

Hutchison Ports EIT (Ensenada’s International Terminal ) will invest 100 MUSD to increase its infrastructure and equipment in the next 20 years, since the Integrated Port Administration at Ensenada extended its assignment of rights for the period 2017-2037.

Regarding equipment, Hutchison Ports EIT will acquire 4 RTG yard cranes and 2 Super Post Panamax gantry cranes, which will add to the newly acquired one, adding a total of 3 grantry cranes. On infrastructure, EIT will extend its dock by 150 m and will add 280 lineal meter to the swell deflector. They will perform filling works in order to widen 20% of the assigned area. ( 2.8 additional hectares , to the current 14 ha)

“We have a partial cession since 1997, so the 20 year extension confirms the commitment that Hutchison Ports has with the port of Ensenada and the country, through an investment plan that improves the conditions to drive the international trade”, stated by Mr. Jorge Lecona, General Director of Hutchison Ports Latin American Division.

API expanded the public yards and Bounded Warehouse, as well as the Port’s main breakwater, its construction started in November 2016 and will conclude by the End of this year.

Hutchison Ports EIT received 208 container vessels in 2016 and by the beginning of march 2017, received the biggest vessel ever, Guayaquil Express from Hapag-Lloyd which has a capacity for 10,500 TEU. In 2022, by the end of the port extension it will be able to receive up to 260 vessels with capacities for more than 14 thousand TEUS ( 20 ft containers).

Las year the port of Ensenada operated 204,000 TEU’s, in 10 years Hutchison Ports EIT could be able to manage up to 297,000 TEUS and by the end of the concession period it could reach 400,000 TEUs per year.
